The surest way to establish your credit is to work yourself into the position of not needing any.(Maurice Switzer)

Every parent experiences moments of desperation, where we find ourselves pleading with our children: “Daddy needs you to be quiet so he can work.” “Mommy needs you to eat your breakfast.”

Hidden beneath these “I need” statements is a sobering reality: you’re lying to your child. You do not really need them to do anything for you. Not really.

Think of this in terms of credit. We look to a lender for money. What is the best way to get it? The best way to get a loan is to not need it. The lender determines how much money you get based on how you handle money without them (your credit score). If you have money and don’t need credit, you’re more attractive to lenders.

Stop seeking credit from your kids and start meeting your own needs on your own terms (make your own money). You’ll prove you are in control of your own actions, and your little “lenders” will offer compliance out of respect, rather than as currency on loan.

Peace begins with a pause,
