Be a good listener. Your ears never get you into trouble.

(Frank Tyger)

We spend way too much time telling our kids what to do, where to be, and how to feel. Are there times when instruction is necessary? Absolutely. But when that’s the majority of the interactions that we have, we miss out on some of the best moments. We miss out on the chance to really get to know the people that our children are becoming.

If you do one thing today, do this: listen to your children. Ask them questions, value their answers, and resist the urge to comment. I can promise you that this kind of attention and value will do amazing things for your relationship.

Peace begins with a pause,

Hal
